Anna is 4 months old today! Here are her 4 month checkup stats:
Height: 24.2 inches (52nd percentile)
Weight: 12lbs. 12oz. (33rd percentile)
Head Circumference: 41 cm. (63rd percentile)
Anna is a delightful little baby! She is sleeping through the night, a solid 9 hours is typical. She smiles like crazy, but I still haven't captured a smile on camera! Yesterday she giggled as I lifted her up and was saying something ridiculous, it was the cutest little giggle. Anna has wonderful conversations with us, she'll look you in they very seriously and will coo for quite awhile, she has a lot to say! She rolled over a good month ago but really hasn't done it since, the doctor says I can still count that as rolling over because she did it several times in a row.
Anna is a little thing, between the last appointment and yesterdays we had to start supplementing with formula because she had actually lost weight between her 2-month appt. and a fluke appt. I had for Grace about a month later. The doctor looked at her and thought she looked awfully skinny, so they weighed her and she'd dropped 4 ounces. She prefers a bottle to nursing plain and simple, so initially I tried to nurse and then give her a couple additional ounces of pumped breastmilk and then she began refusing to nurse. Who has the time to pump several 4 oz. bottles a day? Plus my milk production had gone down since she was apparently eating so little. After a lot of frustration, I ended up quitting. She now takes formula and I try to nurse first thing in the morning, when she doesn't "notice" as much. That being said this past week she has been crying through the one feeding I have left so I think my nursing days are over with her. I'm kind of disappointed because I had hoped this would be successful for at least 6 months, but she needs to eat so the practical side of myself is over the mommy guilt. Bottles and formula for us, it sure is convenient. Her weight above is also incorrect, it really bothers me but our doctor doesn't have me take her clothes or diaper off. Anna pretty much constantly has a wet diaper despite being changed frequently. So 12lbs. 12oz. is with a VERY wet diaper and clothes on. We always had to take everything off of Grace, they wanted an accurate measurement. Oh well.
All in all, it has been a fabulous first four months with our sweet Anna Lee. She brings us so much joy and so many smiles throughout our day. What a little blessing!

Remember Tabby went through the anti-nursing/eating phase at about the same age. Just make sure you stay on top of it. We ended up going to whole milk and a sippy at 7 months!
ReplyDeletePS - she is soooo dang adorable! I wish we could meet her. Sometime soon I hope.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous baby girl! You're doing the right thing by going to formula. We can forge ahead together! ;)
ReplyDeleteShe's such a little doll! You are doing what is the best for your baby!! I think you'd have more guilt if you kept trying to do something that just wasn't working out for the two of you. You are such a good Mommy!!
ReplyDeleteMy sweet boys are/were both formula fed and they are super healthy and smart. :-) What a sweet little girl! She's absolutely beautiful, Erika. Can you believe its been 4 months?? :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I miss you! I can totally hear you saying this! Anna is soooo adorable, I just wish I could cuddle with her before she is out of the baby stage.
ReplyDeleteI think I see more Wold side in Anna. What do you think?
